Recently I have seen articles and posts about charter "empty legs", often highlighting the incredible savings a traveler can realize compared to buying private charter. If you have seen them, you may be excited about buying a flight on a private jet for "hundreds of dollars, not thousands!"

Empty legs are when business aircraft need to reposition to perform the next flight. This is common in both charter and fractional ownership companies.

This article provides perspective on the effectiveness of selling empty legs, and the potential pitfalls for customers who buy them. Much of this is based on our involvement with JetSuite in the mid-2000s time frame.

In a strategy session with our Fractional CMO, Kris Potter, she said that WingTips is transformational on the same level as Airbnb. I responded, “Don’t you mean Uber and Lyft?” She said, “No…”

I should have known better… Kris has a stellar background in travel marketing & martech so I sat back eager to hear more.

She explained how Airbnb had created a new service that didn't exist and thus solved the problem of travelers finding convenient and affordable lodging.

Among the promotional items we agreed to provide for a cooperative marketing effort with Bermuda Dunes Airport, we decided to offer a 98% landfill-biodegradable water bottle to guests. There was no question this was the route we would take (no pun intended!) since ‘How it is important for WingTips to do our part in helping protect the environment’ — not just through biodegradable water bottles and not just on Earth Day — is at the forefront of the many decisions we make every day. So, in honor of this movement, I thought I’d share ‘why’ it’s important to us and ‘what’ we’re doing now and plan to do in the future.

Thinking back to when I first heard this, I was perplexed, for all I had to do was look at the Sun and see energy being “created.” But later I learned that in fact energy is changing form, and a “nuclear reaction” is what causes energy in the form of light and heat from the Sun. So, energy is stored and converted from one form to another, and energy can be stored at different densities.

Ampaire announces the purchase of five Eco-Caravans by WingTips.
